    LATE MR. J. ALCORN.
    BOONAH, September 30.
Soon after mid-day on Monday, September 24, at a local private hospital, Boonah, Mr. John Andrew Alcorn, of Church-street, Boonah, passed away at the age of 72 years. He was born at Lanark, Ontario, Canada, With his parents he came out to Australia, arriving at Rockhampton when only seven years of age. A few months later they went to Ipswich, but after a brief stay his parents selected land in the Fassifern district, and what is known as Blantyre to-day received its name from the early Alcorns, who owned that station. The chief industry in those days was cotton growing. The late Mr. Alcorn married Miss Young, of White Swamp, N.S.W., who died 16 years ago. After their marriage they settled for a time in Ipswich, where Mr. Alcorn engaged in carpentery. He continued in that trade on moving to Boonah some months later. The present Australan Hotel was built by him.
About 12 years ago Mr. Alcorn married again and had continued actively in his trade until two weeks from his death. For 46 years he lived in the district and made for himself a wide circle of friends, a large number attending the funeral service at the. Church of Christ and at the graveside.
Mr. Alcorn had eight brothers, only one now remaining, Mr. G. D. Alcorn, of Old Kereelah, N.S.W.; and one sister, the late Mrs. Mary Blaker, who conducted a private hospital in Ipswich for many years, and also was private nurse for Dr. Cameron. Many of the older residents of Boonah and district remember her. Besides his brother, the mourners include the widow, three daughters - Mrs. C. Green and Mrs. A. Noffke (Boonah) and Mrs. D. Neurath (Ipawich) - and a son, Mr. R. Alcorn (Dugandan), as well as Mrs. Alcorn's family, Mrs. I. Young (Tenterfield), Mrs. R. Alcorn (Dugandan), Mrs. W. Ellison (Purga), and Messrs. C. and E. Heit. There are also four grandchildren.
